About

My name is Alan Silverman, MA, MT-BC, LCAT. I am a board-certified music therapist who provides music therapy services to clients in a variety of areas in mental health. My clinical work has given me comprehensive experience treating people of all ages with numerous diagnoses. Additionally, I provide therapy for those without a formal diagnosis but who are seeking continued personal growth, increased wellbeing, and wellness. I currently work as an associate clinician at Wellness Counseling LCSW, PLLC and as a music therapist with Northeast Creative Arts Therapies. I worked as a recovery clinician and became lead clinician at Northeast Community Center for Behavioral health from 2021-2023. There I treated clients 18+ with diagnoses of schizophrenia spectrum disorders, cognitive impairment, substance abuse disorder, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. For my music therapy internship from 2020-2021, I worked as a music therapist at an outpatient psychiatric center where I provided treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. Furthermore, I have treated the geriatric population as well as children with special needs during my music therapy training. My therapeutic orientation is eclectic, and draws from humanistic, transpersonal, existential, Adlerian and behavioral approaches. I tailor the content of the therapy sessions to match each client’s unique goals, background, preferences, and experiences. My specialties include but are not limited to guided imagery and music (GIM), relaxation-induction, mindfulness instruction, song writing, musical improvisation, therapeutic drumming, and positive psychology techniques. I hold certifications in DBT, Health Rhythms, Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, and Telehealth for Mental Health Practitioners.
